Army Chief appoints team to inquire Habarana Incident involving Maj. Gen.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva ordered to appoint a Board of Inquiry, headed by two Senior Major Generals into the incident in Habarana where a Major General of the Army was involved in a repulsive  altercation with a team of Wildlife Department officials.

The Board of Inquiry was appointed in order to find and verify facts related to the whole incident since Police complaints have been lodged.

This was in addition to a parallel Military Police investigation that came into effect soon after the incident, the army said.

The Board of Inquiry, still in progress recording necessary details and evidence, is expected to complete its findings shortly and hand it over to the Commander.

The Kekirawa Magistrate Saman Weraniyagoda yesterday ordered the Habarana OIC to immediately arrest and produce in court the Army Major General and other members of the Army who alleged to have assaulted a wildlife officer on duty at the Minneriya National Park.

The Magistrate questioned the police as to why they had not been arrested since there were valid proof that the suspects had involved in the ugly incident.
