Colombo, March 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Ministry has announced that applications are now open for admission to Grade 12 of the Advanced Level Vocational Stream for the 2026/2027 academic year.
Unlike traditional streams, the results of the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) examination will not be considered for admission, allowing students who have sat the O/L exam in 2025, 2026, or within the last three years to enrol in schools offering the Vocational Stream in their area.
Students entering Grade 12 will follow modules designed to develop soft skills and gain an introduction to various vocational fields. In Grade 13, they will receive training at government vocational training institutes as well as workplace-based training, leading to the award of an NVQ Level 4 qualification, recognized both locally and internationally.
The program offers vocational training in fields including tourism and hospitality, automotive technology, information technology, health services, gem and jewellery technology, beauty culture, arts and crafts, food production, apparel studies, electrical and electronic technology, metal processing, welding, machine operation, construction, interior decoration, landscaping, agriculture and plantation industry, aquatic resources technology, sports, lifesaving and diving, and sales and logistics.
Students who successfully complete their school education and NVQ training will gain access to employment, higher education, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
