Appeal Court to rule on Yoshitha’s revision plea on July 3

Colombo, June 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal today reserved July 3 for the delivery of its judgment on a revision application filed by Yoshitha Rajapaksa in connection with the money laundering case widely known as the “Menik Malla” case.

The application challenges a ruling of the Colombo High Court that rejected a preliminary objection raised by the defence during the trial proceedings.

The matter was taken up before a bench comprising Justices Amal Ranaraja and Sumudu Premachandra. Following the conclusion of oral submissions by both parties, the court fixed a date to announce its determination on the revision petition.

Rajapaksa has sought the Appeal Court’s intervention to set aside the High Court’s decision dismissing the preliminary objection, contending that the ruling warrants review by the higher court.

Counsel Hafeel Farisz appeared on behalf of the petitioner, while Senior Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara represented the Attorney General.
