Accountable health service to safeguard people’s well-being: Minister

Colombo, Sept. 28 (Daily Mirror) - A health service that ensures accountability to the people while safeguarding their well-being will be established across the country, Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

He made this statement at the opening of the Mapalagama Health and Wellness Center in the Galle District, the first facility launched under the Health and Wellness Center Project.

As part of the government’s innovative programme for a healthy nation, 100 primary health care centers are scheduled to be opened this year. These facilities, named Health and Wellness Centers, will be set up in easily accessible locations closer to communities.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Jayatissa said the health sector has long faced many challenges, but the government is determined to overcome them, especially the challenge of maintaining the health of the people.

He said that the active support of the entire community is vital in this effort and assured that steps will be taken to deliver health services through a new methodology, while providing the necessary staff for the centers.
