Colombo, Nov. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) has raised serious concerns over an alleged attempt by a senior Health Ministry official to include two additional posts in the finalized Medical Specialists End Post List for 2026.
According to the AMS, the official has taken steps to add two new end posts to leading government hospitals despite the list having already been finalized and forwarded to the Public Service Commission (PSC).
In a letter addressed to the Health Ministry secretary, the AMS strongly condemned what it described as a manipulative act claiming it was influenced by personal interests rather than service requirements.
It further noted that all new end posts should be evaluated and approved through the Expert Committee appointed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Health.
The AMS emphasized that bypassing this process would not only breach established procedures but also undermine the transparency and credibility of the end post allocation mechanism.
As such, the AMS warned that such interference would violate multiple clauses in the expert committee report, undermine the authority of the Transfer Board, and delay both the release of the 2026 End Post List and the subsequent Annual Transfer process, potentially affecting hundreds of medical specialists.
Highlighting the shortage of consultants across the country, the AMS pointed out that those two hospitals already have sufficient posts under relevant two categories.
It added that this alleged move could also amount to interference with a pending cases related to the conversion of a transferable post into an end post within the same unit.
The AMS reiterated its opposition to any manipulation of the End Post List and urged authorities to uphold transparency and fairness in the transfer process.
