AG nominates two officials to assist committee probing Deshabandu



The Attorney General has nominated Additional Solicitor General (President's Counsel) Dileepa Peiris and Deputy Solicitor General Rajitha Perera to assist the Committee of Inquiry investigating Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.

The Committee, which has been appointed to inquire into and report on allegations of gross abuse of power by the IGP, has also requested the Acting IGP via an official letter to nominate a police investigation team to support its ongoing inquiry.

This development was revealed during the Committee's second meeting, held today in Parliament, according to the Parliament Media Unit.

During the session, the Committee held preliminary discussions on the structure and conduct of its future proceedings, including the participation of relevant stakeholders.

It was also decided that the Committee will reconvene on April 28, 2025, to make further decisions regarding its next steps.
