As many as 96 trains were off the tracks yesterday and today due to absence of railway workers, the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters' Union (SLTSMU) said.

They said 48 pasenger trains and 11 goods trains were cancelled yeaterday (December 31) as railway staff failed to turn up.

Meanwhile, 36 trains including 24 passenger trains and 12 goods trains were cancelled by 6:00 pm today also owing to similar reasons. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Is this the type of employees in Sri Lanka failing to turn up for work ? Take disciplinary action against them.I understand one cannot take such actions as the top politicians in SL will be against it. That’s what my SL housemate tells me! Wither Sri Lanka !

Every nine persons out of ten are regular alcohol consumers. Majority of them belong to the govt sector. Many turn up to work with a hangover resulting in no positive work taking place. No where in the world will we find workers of the public transport sector with such acute indiscipline that we see in Sri Lanka. This impunity and arrogance by these workers are supported by Ministers.
