42 train services cancelled from tomorrow until further notice

Due to the absence of train-running staff, the Railway Department has decided to cancel 42 train services, including office trains and passenger services from tomorrow until further notice.

Accordingly, 20 journeys on the main line, four on the Puttalam line, two on the Kelani Valley railway line, and 16 on the coastal line are included in it.

Since the beginning of this year, many train services have been cancelled regularly, and the department has notified the relevant staff in writing as official cancellations. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Staff shortage caused by what? Migration? A lapse in hiring? There seems to be plenty of able bodied people complaining of not having work. Many are on drugs. Others are dreaming of migration. No one wants to work. If you cannot work in Sri Lanka you can never survive working overseas. That's the reality.

Our Armed forces should have been trained to step in when situations like this arise. No government addressed these issues. I firmly believe it is not staff shortage but the cancellations may be due to lack of fuel to power the trains or they want to save the fuel to save Forex

Prior to Retirement it is mandatory that 3 months befeore the person must notify for an extension. Given an extention the termination is automatic. The section called Admin in the CGR pun deliberate, as usual still in the Nineteenth century mentality thinks that the heavens,the british will bring the traindriverd. How calous by just saying that trains are cancelled when more and more use the train due to high cost of other public transport. The SLR GM should be sacked for absolute dirlection of duty. The railway is the Gold Mine of public transport and as normal in this sad sad country Lanka another burden on the Shoulders of the already striken public. This is unforgivable or deliberate to insidiously lessen thefinancial cost. Also the this adds to fact that from Anuradhapura to KKS no trains (again was it deliberate) but for next five months the railway staff gets paid FOR Doing nothing.

Hand over the railways to Indian railways please. Within weeks one would see the improvements, discipline in the system. Meanwhile sack the GMR AND HIS ASSISTANTS.Gone are the days of RAMPALA
