108 couples married at one ceremony

Colombo, August 28 (Daily Mirror) - A group of 108 young couples in Jaffna entered into the happy union of marriage at a mass wedding ceremony yesterday at the Selva Sannithi Murugan Temple in Jaffna.

They had previously been unable to get married due to economic constraints.

However, a couple living in Dubai and currently based in Singapore funded the wedding ceremony and provided them with the opportunity to begin married life. The donors paid for all the jewellery and wedding attire of the 108 couples.

When poor families suffer from economic crisis what can be more rewarding than this kind of kind deed: whoever has funded this program must be a man of good heart and we do have a lot of Sri Lankan Tamils in western countries but no one has come forward to do this but a man from Singapore has done this while Rich Tamils are hiding their money in western bank to be taken by bank when they die : What a beautiful deed? Humanity gets a true happiness when they spend not when they accumulate money and wealth: unfortunately this truth has not touched many our rich people yet :

You are correct. It is the Tamils who have never gone through July 1983, have not been in the war zone during the war period, had easy exam success, influence and easy pathways to West through scholarships and born to successful influential parents who don't care for the poor and suffering. But even among privileged persons like late Dr Ravi Pillai of Oxford (son in law of JR brother Dr R P Jayawardena) and Raj Rajaratnam (son of Singer Company NY Vice President JM Rajaratnam) have helped the poor and suffering through many ways.
