Colombo, Nov 23 (Daily Mirror) - As Sri Lanka’s cricket administration looks to address the failings of the national team at the Cricket World Cup, SLC President Shammi Silva on Wednesday said he was inviting a prominent former national player to take over the coaching role.

“Some former legends could be involved in moving forward. I am inviting the country’s biggest cricketing legend to come to Sri Lanka and take over the national team, and we will even pay what the coach of the Indian team gets,” Silva said, stopping short of naming the individuals he was referring to.

Silva said several decisions will be taken on how to proceed with the team, in the wake of Sri Lanka’s ninth place finish at the World Cup.

“We will take some big decisions over the next three or four days,” Silva added.

The biggest decision you need to take is to get lost along with your other board members. It's OK to be banned for a while until we comeback strong. We don't need your legends here to coach our cricketers.

Sri Lankan cricket will improve if corrupt Executives leave SLC.

SL cricket standard will improve once you scumbags leave SLC.

    Jayantha Thursday, 23 November 2023 11:09 AM

He no longer has any authority when parliament has passed an act to oust him. Why he is allowed to act like this is the biggest question. A cricket-loving fan should go and get a suspension order to prevent these crooks from wasting money and good name of country. He has already tarnished the image of Sri Lanka and also it is betrayal of nation. If he did this in a middle east country, he would be no longer living to be honest.

    Jude Thursday, 23 November 2023 11:10 AM

No coach can help this team. The players must change their attitude. Moreover, players must enhance their skills, technique and fitness. For The present bunch of players winning is not priority.

The players do have skills but team spirit is lacking

    First of all.. You

That is what the sports minister want to do by amending the relevant act so no clubs exist like mushrooms merely for votes, without any involvement of any cricket. It is not political intereference but for the betterment of cricket.

    Aquarius Thursday, 23 November 2023 12:08 PM

These comments reflect that he still wants to remain in power and control the purse. The best is for him to step down and let someone start with a clean sheet. Former legends have avoided the SLC like a plague.

Hondha Hitha Thursday, 23 November 2023 12:32 PM

Enough is enough. You better leave SLC

Appoint Arjuna Ranatunga with full powers. He will do a very good job.

    johan Thursday, 23 November 2023 01:10 PM

He seems to be sick better give full power to Kumar Sangakara

    Citizen2023 Thursday, 23 November 2023 05:05 PM

Yes Arjuna appears to be not in good health. Winder Shami is referring to Duleep Mendis. Don't know whether he is suitable though he has done good job in coaching Oman national team.

Ajith Fernando Friday, 24 November 2023 06:42 AM

Kumar and Mahela are not Saints. They have to answer what really happened in the WC final in Mumbai few years ago

    Shifan Friday, 01 December 2023 05:35 PM

A weak Arjuna is better than thousands of good for noting international coachs and ex-players. His heart is cricket and nothing else....

    johan Thursday, 23 November 2023 01:08 PM

Give full power to Kumar Sangakara to select and coach the SL team meanwhile try to screen players from each province irrespective of School/Club players

    Tuan Friday, 24 November 2023 07:25 AM

Johan, can you go back to the world cup when Mahila was captain, everyone knows that the match was given to India, through Sangakara.

    Inshi Thursday, 23 November 2023 01:46 PM

No proper planning judging from the way our boys performed. There was only one consistent performer in Dilshan Madushanka and inconsistent, occasional brilliance from the rest of batsmen! We never got the impression that they were playing as a team. A respected man should be at the helm to change the attitude of the players and bring out their best.

Divine Choices will be Thursday, 23 November 2023 02:03 PM

This is another born again trick to get born again Sangha.Yeheli will rule the roost picking players as her divine power tells her to do along with Namal's born again uncle,Jerome.

    Ram Thursday, 23 November 2023 02:27 PM

No Sri Lankan cricketing legend will agree to work under a crooked corrupt "Boss"

    Upuli Thursday, 23 November 2023 02:40 PM

Hay Shammi, before you insult former legends, look around and see who's sitting next to you on both sides. Have they played proper cricket.

    Fred Thursday, 23 November 2023 03:50 PM

For legends to become true legends they must work tirelessly for the country, serve the country.Money then becomes a byproduct of a legends untiring efforts to serve the motherland. He then becomes a patriot which is what we need.Hope he will fulfil that role

MLM Maqshood Thursday, 23 November 2023 03:55 PM

in the name of God, please, please, please LEAVE SLC. That is the biggest contribution you could make to SLC

    Mohamed Thursday, 23 November 2023 04:03 PM

Sangakkara will not come forward he will loose his reputation if he take over. Sangakkara please don't come forward you have a very good international support be wise don't be greedy like mahela jayawardene he lost his reputation now no one will ever respect mahela.

    Ron Thursday, 23 November 2023 04:32 PM

Get a fresh honest team to perform SLC in first place its not the coach fault...

    N V Jen Thursday, 23 November 2023 05:04 PM

@ divine choice, do not throw mud at respectable people and don't question their beliefs in a sarcastic manner. What matters is not the individual's belief but the cricketing prowess

    'ravip Thursday, 23 November 2023 05:26 PM

    yes, bring the 'naaki legend

Divine Choices Thursday, 23 November 2023 07:27 PM

@N V Jen ,learn to respect my opinion too, someone may be respectable to someone but not to the majority.

    Sambo Thursday, 23 November 2023 07:56 PM

Also take decisions not to have gala times with the player money. If they don't play you will not sit on the seat you are sitting now. Don't be greedy as every one for money.

    ANNECUNT Thursday, 23 November 2023 08:34 PM

we must have a subect in schools as AVOID CORRUPTION AND DO NOT STEAL FROM YOUR MOTHERLAND

    Jerry Friday, 24 November 2023 02:20 AM

It is Scumbags like you who are responsible for Sri lanka's present mess in all things. The sooner you Scumbags are booted out the better.

    Dhananjaya Friday, 24 November 2023 06:16 AM

Let's prepare a new constitution with the involvement of experienced past players of the calibre of Madugalle, Weththamuni, Ranathunga, De Silva Jayasuriya, Mahanama etc. along with a few distinguished lawyers and the Ministry of Sports. Voting for new officials should be by proper cricket playing clubs and few others members with an impeccable integrity. Such a board should be able to run Sri Lanka Cricket like any reputed organisation such as Keels, Aitken Spence etc. Not rocket science.

    Kadmin Friday, 24 November 2023 07:57 AM

Looks a bit of a hostage situation by current board. If these posts are voluntary then I can't see why it is so hard for them to leave. Every effort they try making their time extended means, proving something sinister happening. We just want our cricket back please.

cricket fan Friday, 24 November 2023 09:30 AM

Take a leaf from Afghanistan who took the 2023 cricket world cup by storm by their magnificant performance. Their coach former England cricketer Jonathan Trott with not much of experience may have done a great job but it was the sheer talent of this Afghan cricket team in comparison to the Sri Lanka cricket team with not much of experience that nearly made history.

Consider technique and physical build not midgets and big publlc school experience and select a pool

Syed Aftab Saturday, 25 November 2023 10:25 PM

Srilanka has always done well whenever we had Australian coaches. Dav Whatmore, Tom Moody, Trevor Bayliss. We were in 3 Finals in the 50 over format and twice in t20s. Winning one in each. That speaks a lot. Australians are brilliant when it comes to competitiveness and we should engage them as permanent coaches always. We should revert back to having them.

    Ayaz Tuesday, 28 November 2023 07:12 PM

What our batters lack is the discipline to stay at the wicket facing the new ball when thrown at them on a difficult length and speed. lack the skill to defend , react and score or protect the wicket on difficult pitches has led to the downfall. They score high on placid pitches and have no clue on grassy or slow pitches. One of the solution is to find chances for our batters to play county cricket . This applies to our bowlers as well . Fielding needs commitment without saying
