Colombo, April 12 (Daily Mirror) - People remain confused since the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs and Provincial has not defined the additional holiday declared on April 15 as a banking and mercantile holiday.

The gazette notification issued by the ministry only says it is a public holiday.

Asking for a comment in this regard, Ministry Secretary Pradeep Yasarathne only said,” we have declared a public holiday. It is up to the relevant institutions to decide."

Prodded for an answer to know whether it was a bank holiday, he said, “You just refer to the gazette notification," without elaborating further.

Yup - paid to confuse the situation so if anything happens, easy to bail out. Need to revamp the system and remove these morons soonest. Hope the voters will be wiser now as most are educated, having social media etc. Unlike the previous generations looking out for election freebies and suffering the next 5 years at the hands of these morons.

Holiday for people pocketing collected tax but tax payers need to work on that day to make sure no reduction in paying tax. This is govt killing private sector employees.

Every, employee, even Novice, should know that Public Holiday is confined to Public Service, Mercantile or Private sector institutions are not covered unless so declared by the Chamber of Commerce or Employers Federation, who only provide a holiday for their employees, covered by "Statutory Holidays and not otherwise"!!?? Those holidays are in the statute already!!??? Not dependent on 'RAHU KALAYA' or whatever!!!??? As Far as Bank Holidays - Banks cannot be closed in excess of 3 consecutive calendar days, according to monetary policy - please check, Mea Culpa, may be wrong!!??

Of what use are these jackasses if they cannot issue a circular without causing any ambiguities? Besides, a public holiday on the 15 th of April is unwarranted.

    DillonDP Saturday, 13 April 2024 08:39 AM

In other words it's a holiday for the citizens of government establishment

In case of doubt, it is a Hiliday for everyone, including all police officers, customs officers, immigration, railway workers, bus drivers, ECB workers, simply for everyone. What a wonderfully calm day that would be. Praise be to the minister who came up with this wise decision that allows people to light stupid oil lamps.
