Travel and food bloggers of 12 from the USA, the UK and Italy arrived in Sri Lanka recently to commence on a familiarization tour hosted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).
The bloggers arrived in Sri Lanka for a 10-day press trip and set out in two groups on a tour around the country, with one group covering Sri Lankan cuisine, while the other group covering travel activities of the country.
The food bloggers observed Sri Lankan cuisine and food sources from around the country in places from renowned restaurants in Colombo to village kamathas in other towns.
They explored the local street food and markets in Galle Face and Hikkaduwa, learned about Ayurveda food in Kalutara, prepared local food with farmers at Wellawaya, experienced tea manufacturing in Nuwara Eliya, visited the fisheries market in Negombo and engaged in many similar activities to showcase the beauty of the country.
Bloggers dedicating their time on travel blogging, covering travel and adventurous activities Sri Lanka offers.
The group started off with a city tour in Colombo, took part in rafting, hiking, sightseeing waterfalls and the preserved colonial buildings in Nuwara Eliya, temple visits and yatch rides by the beach before ending the tour with a memorable seafood barbeque by the beach in Negombo.
The SLTPB will continue to host familiarization tours for bloggers as the programme is a success and has resulted in considerable media coverage from the bloggers’ countries through their blog posts in websites and social media. The SLTPB has received great support from the hotels and service providers involved in the tour.
