Trinity regains Under-14 Rugby Title

Trinity College regained the Milo Inter-Schools Under-14, 10-A-Side Rugby Title when they defeated Isipathana College 10-5 during extra time in a thrilling Cup Championship final encounter played at the Royal College Sports Complex in Reid Avenue today (01).

In fact, the Cup Championship final ended in a 5-5 draw at the completion of the initial 14 minutes of play.

Isipathana took the lead at half time with a superb try from I. K. Tharusha before Trinity equalised in the second half through an unconverted try from U. S. Gammudali.

However, Trinity had the final laugh and added the finishing touches in style with Y. N. Ariyawansa scoring the match winning try in the last minute of extra time following a neat pass from Anuhas Kodithuwakku.

  • (Cup quarter-finals): St. Peter’s beat St. Joseph’s 5-0, Isipathana beat D. S. Senanayake 10-7, Zahira beat St. Anthony’s 5-0, Trinity beat Wesley 19-0.
  • (Bowl quarter-finals): Vidyartha beat Dharmaraja 10-7, Royal beat Maliyadeva 12-0, Kingswood beat S. Thomas’ 10-5, Lumbini MV beat Science College 12-10.
  • (Shield quarter-finals): Mahanama beat Thurstan 5-0, Ananda beat S. Sylvester’s 5-0, St. Benedict’s beat Lalith Athulathmudali MV 26-14, St. John’s beat Sri Sumangala MV 22-0.
  • (Plate semi-finals): St. Joseph’s beat D. S. Senanayake 19-0, Wesley beat St. Anthony’s 29-0.
  • (Shield semi-finals): Mahanama beat Ananda 12-0, St. Benedict’s beat St. John’s 25-5.
  • (Bowl semi-finals): Vidyartha beat Royal 8-5, Kingswood beat Lumbini 12-7.
  • (Cup semi-final) : Isipathana beat St. Peter’s 7-0, Trinity beat Zahira 31-0.
  • (Shield final): Mahanama beat St. Benedict’s 15-5.
  • (Bowl final): Vidyartha beat Kingswood 21-0.
  • (Plate final): St. Joseph’s beat Wesley 10-5.
  • (Cup final): Trinity beat Isipathana 10-5 (extra time).
