The International Military Sports Council (IMSC) has decided to stage the third World Military Council (WMC) Beach Volleyball Games from July 16 to 23 next year in Negombo.

This is the first time that an international beach volleyball tournament is being hosted in Sri Lanka. It will be organised by the Defence Services Sports Council. Previously the World Military Golf Championship was held in Trincomalee in 2017.

The third WMC Beach Volleyball Championship was earlier scheduled to be held in July this year but because of the Coronavirus pandemic all international military games were postponed.

The beach volleyball tournament is for both Men and Women. The IMSC has a membership of 125 countries out of which 32 countries (16 Men and 16 Women) will be taking part in this third edition of the WMC Beach Volleyball Tournament, IMSC Volleyball Secretary, Group Captain, Padman de Costa told the Daily Mirror today.

As hosts, Sri Lanka will be able to field two teams in the competition. Sri Lanka qualified to the final-round in beach volleyball when the World Military Games was held in China last year.
