The pre-season tournament of the Super League semi-professional football tournament organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) will kick-off today (17) with the match between Red Star SC and Blue Star SC at the Sugathadasa Stadium commencing at 5:00 p.m.
Held under strict health protocols because of the COVID-19 pandemic and without spectators, the pre-season event will see a total of 20 matches taking place. The tournament will be worked from February 17 to March 24 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
This is the first time ever Sri Lanka will be conducting a semi-professional football tournament.
The Super League will begin in July.
The FFSL has allocated Rs. 30 million for the tournament.
Blue Eagles SC, Blue Star SC, Colombo FC, Defenders FC, New Youngs FC, Ratnam SC, Red Star FC, Renown SC, Sea Hawks FC and Up Country Lions SC are the teams taking part in the Super League.
