Java Lane SC and New Star SC entered the semi-finals of the Vantage FFSL President’s Cup 2020 Football Tournament knocking-out Defenders SC and Blue Eagles SC respectively at the Sugathadasa Stadium in
Colombo yesterday.
After both teams fired blanks during normal time, Java Lane SC won the penalty shootout 3-1 with R. H. S. M. Perera, M. A. M. Najabdeen and T. F. Chikebara being successful from the spot while K. S. S. Dayawansa was the solitary goal scorer for Defenders SC.
New Star SC riding on a brace by V. M. Anas ended the unbeaten run of Blue Eagles SC dazzling under lights to notch a 2-1 victory after leading 1-0 at half time.
D. K. Duminda scored for Blue Eagles SC in the 59th minutes and were down to 10-men after Roshan Fernando was shown the red card 10 minutes later.
Today’s quarter-finals:
Colombo FC v Police SC at 4.00 p.m.
Red Stars FC v Serendib SC
at 7.00 p.m.
