New meet records galore on second day

A total of 11 new meet records were established on the second day of the 35th All-Island School Games Athletics Meet which continued at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday.

Seven new meet records were set up in the Girls’ Championship while four new meet records were established in the Boys’ Championship after the opening day produced only four new records.

The athletes who established new meet records in the Boys’ Championship were W. M. P. M. D. Wijerathna (Dharmaraja), U. B. M. R. D. Bandara (Wekada MV, Chilaw), S. Mithunraj (Hartley College) and Shewan Abeysinghe (Lyceum, Nugegoda).

The athletes who established new meet records in the Girls’ Championship were Nethra Samadhi (Vijitha MMV, Dickwella), N. Dadsitha (Hindu College), D. M. I. Hasanthi (A. Rathnayaka CC, Walala), Sachini Samarasekara (St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo), D. M. T. D. Karunarathna (A. Rathnayaka CC, Walala) Nethmi Niwarthana (Weeriyagama MV, Hambantota) and Ravidi Wenurika (Wijayapura KV, Thanamalwila).

Meanwhile, St. Peter’s College, Colombo took an early lead in the Boys’ Overall Championship with a total of 42 points.

Rathnayaka CC, Walala were well ahead in the Girls’ Overall Championship having collected a total of 81 points.
