Sri Lanka fast-bowler Dhammika Prasad announced on Thursday that he would be calling time on his international career.
The 37 year-old quick made his debut against Bangladesh in 2006 and represented Sri Lanka in 25 Tests, 24 One-Day Internationals and a solitary T20I; collecting a total of 107 wickets across formats. His last appearance for the National side was at home versus the West Indies in 2015.
Prasad was unfortunate to be plagued by injuries for much of his career and it was a shoulder injury that put him out of contention after a prolific 2015 that saw him pick up 41 scalps in the longer format at an average of just under 25.
He made a return to domestic cricket in a bid to force his way back into National contention but never quite hit the highs he reached pre-injury.
Arguably his finest moment in National colours was his 5/50 in the second innings against England at Headingly in 2014 that helped Sri Lanka script a remarkable come-from-behind victory and record a series win over the hosts.
Despite pulling the curtain on his international career, Prasad intends to continue plying his trade for the Sinhalese Sports Club in the upcoming domestic season and is also set to represent the ‘Sri Lanka Legends’ team in the Road Safety World Series in India next month.
