Colombo FC and Blue Stars SC won the Lanka Super League Pre-Season matches conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
Reigning FA Cup champions Colombo FC won a seven-goal thriller against New Youngs FC 4-3 while Blue Stars defeated Defenders FC 3-1.
New Youngs led Colombo FC 2-1 at half time through goals by Kalum Sanjaya (19the minute) and B. Rumesh Mendis (40th). M.F. Mohamed Aakib pulled one back in the 29th minute for Colombo FC.
Tharindu Danushka struck early in the second half to give New Youngs a 3-1 cushion.
But a rampant Colombo FC turned the tide by scoring three goals within the space of ten minutes.
Momas Yapo found the net in the 54th followed by Zarwan Johar four minutes later. Aakib’s completed a double in the 64th minute to score what turned out to be the match winning goal.
In the late game, Defenders drew first blood in the 12th minute when Madushan de Silva struck in the 12th minute.
Blue Stars equalised through an own goal by Henry Appiah before surging ahead in the 35th minute through Senal Sandesh’s strike. M.F.M. Risan’s 52nd minute strike was enough to secure victory for Blue Stars.
