Two cricketers who were in the training pool for the limited over leg of Sri Lanka's upcoming tour of West Indies tested positive for COVID-19.
Fast-bowlers Binura Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne had returned positive tests, and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said they had not come in contact with any national players.
“They participated in a training session and then we got the results of the first PCR test that was done (on Wednesday),” SLC CEO Ashley de Silva told the Daily Mirror.
“We are following the Health Ministry guidelines, and according to that they were part of a small training group. Once we were informed that they tested positive, the others in that group were also isolated,” he said.
The squad which commenced training on the 18th January at the SSC Grounds, underwent a PCR test on the 20th, whilst the rest of the players will once again undergo a PCR test on the January 26, as part of a routine testing process.
