Classic Travel, leading travel services provider recently concluded its first ever Everest Base Camp Expedition with a group of 12 adventurous Sri Lankans. While global tour operators have been promoting Everest Base Camp Treks for many years, the concept is a novel one in Sri Lanka and Classic Travel in its signature trend setting approach was the first Sri Lankan tour company to organize a tour of this scale and magnitude. The group included Sri Lankans from many walks of life and different age categories. The trek was a phenomenal and absolute success with all group members reaching the Everest Base Camp located 5364m above sea level on the 7th May 2019. Each group member received a Certificate personally signed by Ang Dorjee Sherpa, who was the legendary Rob Hall’s partner in the 1996 Everest Summiting Expedition.

Commenting on the trek, Lakshimaal Samarasinghe the tour leader said, “the entre journey was a phenomenal experience. Each day was different and the courage and perseverance of each member of our group was inspiring.”

Classic Travel’s extensive experience in organizing group tours and the well-defined and far reaching planning process no doubt made it possible for each member of the group to retain motivation and endurance to reach the Base Camp.

The Trek to Everest Base Camp is considered ‘any trekker’s ultimate dream” and hundreds of trekkers from all over the world take on this challenge every year with the aim of reaching the base of the roof of the world.

While reaching the Everest summit still remains a daunting task, thousands of people trek through the Khumbu Valley to Everest Base Camp to catch a glimpse of tallest mountains in the world. With the right amount of preparation, anyone willing can reach the Everest Base Camp.

In order to make the trek a successful one and allow all participants to enjoy the journey, Classic Travel commenced preparations 4 months prior to the trip. The entire group went through a 100-day program which included walking, cross fit exercises, breathing techniques as well as dietary controls. Moreover, the group practiced climbing skills with treks to some of the highest and difficult points in Sri Lanka such as Kirigalpoththa, Sri Pada (Adams Peak), Rawanagala (Norwood) and Devils Stair Case.

Speaking about the success of the trek, Saif Yusoof, Managing Director of Classic Travel said, “the concept of trekking holidays is still new to the Sri Lankan market. But this mindset is changing, and Sri Lankans are very much interested in trekking holidays.  Those who go through Classic Travel will be well-prepared to tackle the challenges of a daunting journey. In addition, we are well-equipped to provide the necessary facilities throughout the journey.”

Classic Travel plans to organize its next trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2020 and Everest Base Camp, Nepal in April & November 2020. The company also plans to organize many more expeditions to globally renowned treks.
