The news report on 9th Dec. in the Daily Mirror says that "he National Anthem is continually sung in Sinhala in the north and the east, and it should be allowed to be sung in Tamil in those areas, TNA MP for the Batticaloa District S. Selvarajah said today".
The USA has 75% Hispanics, and they don;t sing their national anthem in the traditionally Hispanic areas like California, Texas, Mexico etc., and does not even recognize Spanish. France has 10% Arabs, but it does not recognize Arabic or even allow the Hijab head-dress of Muslims.
There are large numbers of Tamils in Malasia and in Singapore. Do they singe their national anthems in Tamil?
The Tamil speakers in Sri Lank are now about 8% due to immigrating out. So why these special favours to the tamils unheard of in other countries?
May be we should just play the tune and leave out all languages.
