Govt. to continue to purchase potatoes, onions

Government will continue to purchase potatoes and onions at a stable price and would also be expanding the programme further, Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando said yesterday.
The government had begun purchasing potatoes and onions during the Uva Provincial Council elections and 270,000 kgs of potatoes and 550,000 kgs of onions had been purchased from farmers to date.  He confirmed that a sum of Rs 202 million had been allocated for the purchase of potatoes and a sum of Rs 33 million for the purchase of onions.
