A person has been stabbed to death by another person in front of his house due to exchange of harsh words with regard to a packet of drugs in Gangarama Road in Werahera, Boralesgamuwa.
Boralesgamuwa Police said the deceased had been identified as Rukmalage Janaka Prasad Perera (38) father of two children and a resident of Jayanthi Mawatha area in Gangarama Road, Werahera. His wife is five months pregnant, police said.
The suspect was arrested in Gangarama Road, Kahatagahawatta area along with the Kris Knife used for the crime. He is a drug addict aged 62 and a driver by profession, police said. A senior police officer said that the suspect confessed to the police that he stabbed his friend in front of his house when the victim assaulted him with a pole. The suspect had gone to the deceased’s home and requested to return the money given to purchase drugs for him. The victim had purchased drugs including the suspect’s money (Rs.1,100). An argument ensued when he said that he has no money to return.
The victim was taken to the Kalubowila General Hospital by the Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service with the help of the people of the area. A hospital spokesman said that he died on admission to the hospital.
