Two men who attempted to lay a live wire from a street lamp post to the nearby lagoon at Thirukedeeswaran in Jaffna – Colombo main highway were electrocuted and their bodies recovered by Mannar Police.

The deceased M. Mahendran (45) was a resident of Adampan and a father of three children while the other Anthonipillai Devasankaer (37) a resident of Murippu also a father of three children.

The police believe that the two men might have come in contact with a live wire in their attempt to lay an electric trap to hunt wild animals frequenting the lagoon.

The bodies were handed over to the Mannar General Hospital after preliminary inquiries at the scene held by the Police and the Ceylon Electricity Board.
