The gazette notification issued by the Prime Minister to lift the ban on import of ceramic-ware was suspended following a request by domestic ceramic-ware manufacturers, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said yesterday.
Responding to a question raised by SJB MP Mujibur Rahuman, he told Parliament that if the domestic production was not sufficient to meet the demand, imports would be permitted to meet the shortage of supply.
MP Rahuman said the Import and Export Controller had suspended the gazette notification issued by the Prime Minister as the Finance Minister to lift the ban on ceramic-ware import two hours after the gazette was issued.
The State Minister said the government was taking decisions and added that someone should be humble to change such decisions if required.
