New Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa offered flowers in veneration and received the blessing of the Sacred Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in keeping with the traditions of the ancient kings. He also pledged to lead the country towards prosperity, after visiting the Maligawa on Saturday. The Prime Minister received a red carpet welcome and was received at the entrance by Diyawadana Nilame of Sri Dalada Maligawa- Pradeep Nilanga Dela following which he was greeted by a large crowd of SLPP enthusiasts. Basnayaka Nilemes of four devalas- Gemunu Bandara Walisundara, Gayan Heenkenda, Hemantha Bandara Herath and several other Nilames also joined to welcome the Premier at the Maligawa, except Nilame Mahen Rathwatte.
