A drug trafficker who had in his possession 31grams of heroin was arrested in the early hours of last morning by the Mount Lavinia Anti- Vice Squad during a raid at Niwanthidiya in Piliyandala.
The 53 year old suspect was a resident of Udahamulla who had been carrying on the racket from a house in Niwanthidiya obtained on rent for Rs.20,000 per month. During the raid police had seized a stock of wrappers used to make packets and a electronic weighing scale. Investigations revealed the suspect himself was a drug addict who spent about Rs.15,000 a day on heroin.
A police team under OIC Anti Vice Squad IP Malinga Abeyratne, and OIC Crime Investigation Unit CI Pushpakumara Ferdinando had carried out the raid on the instructions of Mount Lavinia Police Dileepa C. Perera and SP Kamal Pushpakumara.
