Drug addicts stealing from billionaire lady’s house arrested

Two suspects wanted in connection with the robbery of cash, jewellery,gems and foreign currency at a palatial house in Madiwela were arrested and the stolen articles and a part of the cash were recovered last morning by Mirihana Crime Investigation Unit.  


The suspects had entered the house when the owner, a billionaire lady had been away to attend a wedding in Colombo.  


She stated to police that she suspected two labourers who attended to the cleaning of the garden about two days ago following which the police arrested them to find that they were the culprits. Police said the two men were drug addicts and that they had pawned the jewellery and other valuables to find money to buy heroin.  


The stolen articles included a gold plated pen, ten diamonds, a stock of gems, old coins of antique value, cash Rs. 150.000, and US $ 3000.  


A police team under OIC Mirihanra Crime Investigation Branch Kan Weerasinghe, and SI Kularatne had conducted investigations on the instructions of HQI Mirihana Police H.T.M.Thushara, SP K.S.Rupasnghe, SSP Nuwan Asanka, DIG Kapila Kadupitiya and Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon.
