Following the report issued by the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), examiners said the chassis numbers of 10 motorcycles out of the 26 which were apprehended by the Mirihana Police last Sunday (6) had been found to be altered, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday.
He said the motorcycles were examined by the DMT examiner at the Mirihana Police premises.
The motorcycles were taken into custody by the Police during a raid, conducted immediately following a fatal accident which snatched the lives of a seven-year-old child, and a one-year-old toddler at Egoda Uyana on the Panadura-Moratuwa Road last Friday (December 4). 26 riders who had assembled on high powered motorcycles with engine capacities above the legal limit, were arrested by the Mirihana Police on Sunday (6). The motorcyclists were taken into custody while racing on roads around Parliament and Madiwela causing a great deal of inconvenience to the residents and pedestrians.
