A couple and an accomplice were arrested by the mobile unit of the Mount Lavinia Police on suspicion of drug peddling during a raid carried out at Rawathawatta in Moratuwa. The couple had been carrying on the racket with the help of their accomplice.
The suspects were residents of Moratuwa areas within the age group of 42, 22 and 20 years. The police who arrested the young man walking along the road without a curfew permit, questioned him and recovered 530m.grams of heroin in his possession. The arrested youth provided information leading to the arrest of his aunty and her husband of Rawathawatta who had in their possession 70grams of heroin.
Investigations revealed that they had been engaged in the trade selling the contraband in packets in several areas including Moratuwa, Rawathawatta, Lunawa, and Ratmalana. A police team of the Motor Patrol Unit under SI Asela Prasad Seneviratne is conducting further investigations on the instructions of HQI Dileep C.Perera, and SSP Rohan Premaratne
