Steps will be taken to amend the Consumer Protection Act to suit the new market changes taking place in the world, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane said yesterday.
Responding to a question raised by Government MP Mohamed Muzammil whether action would be taken to regulate on-line businesses, he said no legal provisions had been introduced with regard to E-commerce in Sri Lanka.
“The Consumer Protection Act enacted in 2003 has not been updated according to the changing market trends. No laws have been introduced in Sri Lanka with regard to E-commerce. More changes are need to be done to the Act. Steps are being taken to amend the Consumer Protection Act,” he said.
