15 people disregarding health guidelines arrested in Kataragama

Fifteen people disregarding health guidelines in the Kataragama Town were arrested by the Public Health Inspectors during a raid yesterday.   


Administrative PHI Saman Dissayanake said they organised the raids to prevent any possible health hazard during the festive season when large crowds were expected to visit Kataragama to attend religious activities. 

 
He said that those arrested were not wearing masks and failed to adhere to the social distance rule. The official said the raids were organised under the COVID prevention regulations.   
Meanwhile, legal action was taken against 16 traders who ignored the sanitary regulations and food safety regulations applicable to the supply of food items. 

 
The Administrative PHI said the traders concerned had been storing, displaying or selling food that were unfit for human consumption.   


District Administrative PHI- H. M. Weerasinghe, Kataragama Administrative PHI- Saman Dissanayake, area PHI- I. S. Devanarayana and the officials of the Kataragama MOH office had carried out the raids.
