The UNP will not support the proposed 20th Amendment in any way and will do it's part to prevent it from being approved in Parliament, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said today.

"The UNP will not support any legislation which deny people their rights ensured to them by the late Prime Minister D. S. Senanayake," Mr. Wijewardene said in a statement.

"The 20th Amendment should not be allowed to be enacted," he added.

He said the UNP's national list slot would be filled once the debate on the 20th Amendment is concluded. (Yohan Perera)

Is that Mr. Wijewardene is planning to oppose the amendment while sitting in the gallery?

    Taurus Wednesday, 21 October 2020 09:39 PM

Look who's talking. First nominate an MP for the only seat you got. It's just easy to sit behind microphones and talk big but all hollow. What can the UNP do??? Absolutely NOTHING! Not even a vote!!!

    Sadna Wednesday, 21 October 2020 09:40 PM

    What’s a UNP?

Old UNPer Wednesday, 21 October 2020 09:40 PM

What are you talking about. Your party is not even in parliament. If not for Wijeya News you wont even be heard. I know this will NOT be published.

    Samson Wednesday, 21 October 2020 09:43 PM

Jay Jay Wednesday, 21 October 2020 10:17 PM

What a joke. How can they support or not support when they are not represented in parliament? Even even if they were, it's only 1 vote. Like that's going to make a difference. So sad to see the UNP this way.

    Robert Wednesday, 21 October 2020 10:48 PM

    UNP WILL NOT SUPPORT?!!!

    Era Wednesday, 21 October 2020 11:07 PM

What hell you arw doing without naming a person for the seat. Procastination runs in Wijewardane family as well ?

    JR Wednesday, 21 October 2020 11:09 PM

UNP, the dead party, was rejected by the general public whose support is what His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa obtained through honest VOTES to implement the 20A. So, no worry, UNP is no more at all.

    Buddhist Thursday, 22 October 2020 12:32 AM

What a crap! UNP not nominated a "pinata seat" MP yet.

    Dcol Thursday, 22 October 2020 01:35 AM

Is Ranil the leader? Thursday, 22 October 2020 02:41 AM

That statement should come from Ranil unless Ranil is the UNP leader no more.

    Ranaweera Thursday, 22 October 2020 05:04 AM

No one cares if you support or not

Kapila Senaratne Thursday, 22 October 2020 04:16 PM

One vote can change all. Why are you all not participating and voice in democratic way.
