Suspend school celebrations, demonstrations, band performances: Ministry

The Education Ministry today announced to suspend all band performances other than co-curricular and extra-curricular activities talented to the quality development of education, Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera said.

He said all Provincial, Zonal, Divisional Education Authorities, all Principals including pirivenas have been advised on this.

The decision was taken by the Ministry in view of the prevailing pandemic situation in the country and based on information received that several schools used to conduct shows and demonstrations involving school children, Prof. Perera said.

Considering the prevailing situation, schools in all provinces, except in the Western Province (WP) were re-opened as per health guidelines, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
