Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands by 16 runs to qualify for the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2022, a short while ago.

Batting first, Sri Lanka made 162 for 6 in their 20 overs, on the back of an excellent 79 from Kusal Mendis.

In response, opener Max O'Dowd took the run chase into the last over, with 23 required for victory, but Lahiru Kumara conceded just six runs, to seal the win.

Congratulations Sri Lanka, you all gave us heart attacks, but did the job and achieved entering the Super 12. Be cool and calm and go ahead with high spirit.

Wow what an achievement. If they are struggling against teams like Netherlands imagine India or Australia???? And the armchairs pundits here will be of all praise.... this team does not deserve to be there

This Dutch team must be the only people who play cricket in Holland, hahaha. But nevertheless: congratulations from the Netherlands.

It is the beginning of a long journey so none should rest on their laurels but work hard to find out the pitfalls by reviewing all matches already played and take remedial steps to correct the shortcomings. Good luck boys.

As a nation where cricket is Sri Lanka's national sport we should be ashamed that we have to play and win against countries like Netherlands where cricket is played only as a pastime and also against Associate Members Namibia and the UAE to qualify to play in the super 12's.

Don't crow too much about beating teams like Netherland and UAE. THis does not wipe out the shame of losing (by 55 runs!) to Namibia. Sri Lankan cricket must be ashamed in the first place for having to compete with such teams to qualify to be a part of the real WC tournament. How did they get into such a predicament, when teams such as Afghanistan have qualified. Anyway, now is the real thing. Wait to see how the "Sinhayas" do against Australia, England, India, Pakistan etc.

Our fellows have a long way to go. Not only technicals and fundamentals, but maturity and being humble too. Their ego, attitudes and all the pomp and show will be over if they don’t buckle up. Can’t even compare to our simple, humble, disciplined and classy lot like Arjuna, Aravinda, Hashan, Roshan, Marvan, Guru, Russell, Kumar and Mahela. Those guys kept their gob shut, put their head down, were all textbook and technically solid and most importantly, humble and matured. This present lot however, love their attention and are more on social media than on the turf.
