The Sputnik V vaccine will be used in specific areas or zones and will not be mixed with other vaccines, the Government said.

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that those given the Sputnik V vaccine as the first jab will need to get the same vaccine for the second jab.

As a result, he said that specific zones will be identified to the Sputnik V vaccine.

“The Sputnik V vaccine can be used in areas like the Central Province or North Central Province,” he said.

Cabinet had approved a proposal to allocate USD 69.65 million to purchase 7 million Sputnik V vaccines from Russia.

So far Sri Lanka has used the AstraZeneca vaccine in the Western Province. (Easwaran Rutnam)
