The UNP reforms committee has proposed the nomination of MP Sajith Premadasa as the party’s candidate for prime minister, a party official said. The committee will inform this decision to party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe this week.
This committee consists of MPs Lakshman Kiriella, Vajira Abeyewardena, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Thalatha Athukorala, Malik Samarawickrema, and Ashu Marasinghe. However, MPs Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Thalatha Athukorale said that they would resign from the committee later.
Mr. Kiriella said in a statement that a full report would be handed over to Mr. Wickremesinghe with recommendations for a new outlook for the party. (Nimala Kodithuwakku)
