General Secretary of the SLFP, Dayasiri Jayasekara today said without elaborating, that when a UNP team led by the party’s presidential hopeful Sajith Premadasa met President Maithripala Sirisena, both sides focused on the current political situation of the country.

Mr. Jayasekara, along with the General Secretary of the UPFA, Mahinda Amaraweera and Treasurer of the SLFP, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, joined President Sirisena at the discussion while UNP Chairman, Minister Kabir Hashim and General Secretary of the party, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam assisted Mr. Premadasa at the talks.

The discussion began at around 9:45 pm and lasted for over an hour.

Meanwhile, media spokesman of the SLFP, parliamentarian Weerakumara Dissanayaka at a news briefing held at the party office today said the SLFP was ready to discuss any issue with any political party and added President Sirisena met Mr. Premadasa following a request made by UNP General Secretary, Minister Kariyawasam.

Pressed by journalists, Mr. Dissanayaka did not rule out the possibility of a UNP – SLFP alliance in the event, the attempts to form an alliance led by SLFP – SLPP becomes a flop. (Sandun A. Jayasekera)
