UPFA MP S.B. Dissanayake said yesterday he was certain that the SLFP would not contest the forthcoming presidential election separately or extend its support to UNP candidate Sajith Premadasa.
He told a news conference that if the SLFP fielded a separate candidate, it would result in a rift in the party.
“If the SLFP decides to field a separate candidate for the presidential election, Not even four SLFPers will remain in the party. They will join either Gotabaya or Sajith. I hope President Maithripala Sirisena will not take any decision detrimental to the party. There is a possibility of the SLFP joining hands with Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP),” he said.
Meanwhile, MP Dilan Perera said if the SLFP contested the election, it would only be a disadvantage to Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
