A Russian tour group has been granted permission to visit Sri Lanka and will be the first batch of tourists to enter country after the reopening of the airport on December 26, Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CASL) Chairman Upul Dharmadasa said.
He said this Russian tour group consists of more than 200 people, will be the first to arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and at the Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) respectively.
Mr. Dharmadasa said the airport authorities and the travel agents have been informed of this and instructed to take necessary actions, such as disinfecting the airport premises, organising customs and immigration formalities, hotels reservations by travel agents and arrange buses for the tourists. What if tourists have not had PCR tests prior to departure from their countries? We all know about the arrogance of some tourists and disregard of our laws.

In their hurry to open to tourists, will the tourism agency take responsibility for increased spread of Covid 19 and potential deaths?

Here it is considered very irresponsible and selfish to travel for tourist purposes. I understand Sri Lanka is graving for tourists, but we just can not take the risk. And in Russia there are a lot of Covid 19 positives as well. Please protect Sri Lanka

Negative PCR tests should be checked by Sri Lankan ground staff before tourists board plane to Sri Lanka.

Russians? What about tourists from other countries that want to visit? What is so special about the Russians? There is something very fishy about all this!

Soon the third wave will come from Europe to our country, it's more aggressive and spreads faster but I guess hotels need money right, the community doesnt matter just the fat cats

Get ready for another Covid-19 outbreak. Call it wave 4. The hospitals will be chock full of patients and you will not know what hit you.

What a stupid decision???. What is wrong with these people?. The 3 countries that controlled corona to date very well, in Asia announced air ports will open in End March or April (subject to reschedule). With rising corona cases we're opening our air ports. Good Luck!!!

Believe me those tourists will bring new strains of virus. If that happens it will be a total disaster . No country in the world will not open their borders if they have not controlled the spread. There are only forty plus Covid people in New Zealand. All are imported ones in managed isolation. Still their borders are closed. Be careful

Do you know Russia is sitting at number 4 Covid positive position after USA, Brazil and India . Almost 3 million and over 50,000 deaths , these are official John Hopkins University figures. I'm certain authorities in Sri Lanka are aware of this. Why do they put the country and people are at a risk. You never know those tourists might bring new variants of virus.
