Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who was released from prison, said he will come back to active politics some day but will not join any political party as of now.

" I will stand by the people and stay independent as of now," he told media after coming out of Welikada prision.

"I hope to come back to active politics some day before I die," he added.(Yohan Perera)

  • Glad for the good persons who support Friday, 26 August 2022 05:42 PM

I am pleasantly surprised to find MP Wijeyadasa was so supportive for fighting against corruption. I am most impressed that he asked for Ranjan to continue the fight. Seems there are MPs who truly believe in fighting the good fight. While I can't imagine what Ranjan went through hope he continues with his previous cause, even after all the trouble he went through.

A country is not democratic in which one is not allowed to criticize everything and everyone, including the judiciary. The judges are not gods. Mostly they only have the basic legal education and have become judges because they are not able to survive as a lawyer. Contempt of Court is an outdated law that has long since disappeared in developed countries. In Sri Lanka you cannot criticize judges even you bribe their wife or children

Good Idea Ranjo Saturday, 27 August 2022 10:07 AM

Really I appreciate Ranjan's stance according to him no political parties cannot be trusted in Sri Lanka and he will deliver the best being an independent citizen of SriLanka.

Yes, after sometime Ranjan will join with Ranil and strengthen UNP. for sure.

Ranjan already in the SJB fold, can he get released Saturday, 27 August 2022 05:13 PM

While Ranjan start with good intention to be independent of political parties, including the SJB, I read recently Sajith have him full in the SJB parliamentary group. Better if Ranjan stay aside and run his own line of politics, as surely he can have two or three people in Sri Lanka who join with him get into parliament in the elections. I wait to see if or how Ranjan navigates the treacherous area of inter-party conflict to set course for his vow (not join political party for now). Or can he be corrupted so easily to join so quickly and thoroughly into the SJB forever?
