Ranjan to file motion challenging order given by CoA: Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today they would file a motion in the Supreme Court challenging the order given by the Court of Appeal with regard to the writ application filed by the lawyers of convicted MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

The Court of Appeal yesterday dismissed the writ application filed by lawyers of imprisoned Ranjan Ramanayake seeking a stay order of him losing his parliamentary seat. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

    What Ranjan said falls under freedom of speech guaranteed under the constitution (he was expressing an opinion) he should only be held in contempt if he was directly criticizing a court case he was a party to.

    You cannot expect any fair decision from our judiciary these days. They are all unfair decisions, politically motivated. What Ranjan said was the actual truth.
