Ranjan loses Parliamentary seat

Secretary General of Parliament has informed Chairman of the Elections Commission that MP Ranjan Ramanayake ceased to be a member of Parliament in terms of the provisions of the Constitution, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane informed Parliament today.

“After consideration of legal opinion and provisions of the Constitution, the Secretary General of Parliament in terms of the Parliamentary Elections Act has informed Chairman of the Elections Commission of the vacancy which occurred in the membership of the 9th Parliament due to the fact that Ranjan Ramanayake ceased to be a member of Parliament in terms of the Article 66 D of the Constitution,” he said.
