The meeting of UNP current leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa with the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was put off yesterday as Mr. Premadasa was indisposed. A spokesman from the Speaker’s office told Daily mirror that the meeting was put off indefinitely as Mr. Premadasa had informed of his inability to attend yesterday’s meeting. Both Mr. Premadasa and Mr. Wickremesinghe were to meet yesterday to decide on the opposition leader’s post.

No decision has been made on the opposition leader’s post as UN P General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had informed Speaker Jayasuriya in writing to appoint Mr. Wickremesinghe to the post while more than 60 MPs have informed the Speaker to appoint Mr. Premadasa instead. It was also reported that Mr. Wickremesinghe might resign from the leadership before long. This was confirmed by the UNP General Secretary on Monday. (Yohan Perera)

There is no need for any meetings or delaying tactics. The problem would be solved if Ranil hands over his resignation from the Leadrship of the UNP and from the Party as he has become so unpopular.

Ranil should resign and leave politics, period.

Mr Ranasinghe Premadasa was very tough with Lilith, Gamini and Ranil. At last Lalith and Gamini started a new political party. But Ranil managed. What happened, the tough people were killed and the soft man survived

Will resign from party leadership soon, I do not think the Rajapaksas will like it. Anyway good riddance of bad rubbish.

Sajith should form The New Party without further delay.99% of UNPers will go with him.At the next General Election Former UNP voters will put an end to the political careers of Ranil,Ravi,Akila,Vajira 'rogue clique'.Afterthat Sajith could absorb whatever remains of the UNP like what MR did to SLFP

I say, Sajith, there is no need for non-productive meetings with this man. Just delaying tactics. One more postponement and you break away with your supporters within the UNP and form a new party. This will force this man to resign,
