Permission to import motorcycles for authorised dealers with certain conditions such as their mother companies agree to establish assembling plants in the country, State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama said.

He said a discussion in connection with this was held recently at the Ministry with the participation of all motorcycle importing agents.

During the discussion, the State Minister stressed that permission to import would be granted to the manufacturing companies with conditions. They must enter into agreements with the Government to establish their assembling plants in Sri Lanka.

“Those companies should establish their assembling plants in the country within a year, and during that period they will be allowed to import only the motorcycle models which are made by them with certain conditions,” Minister Amunugama said.

Later, a discussion was held with Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa to explore the necessary avenues to implement this project, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Sri Lanka should reduce its traffic to reduce its air pollution. Instead, it should improve its public transportation. Sri Lanka should also focus on farming or agriculture to get rid of poverty and plant more trees if it wants to build healthy environment tht can improve everyone's health.

This is like the car from China which was assembled in Sri Lanka. All you need is a set of spanner and screw drivers. There is no technology transfer. Only the labour is provided in Sri Lanka.

Hmmmm will it works? Most of the popular and affordable motorcycle brands have their manufacturing plants in India. A bigger market with one billion population. We have only 22 million before covid.

If the COVID19 is the reason for temporary suspension of importation of VEHICLES; then why this new arrangement? this is proved that CORONA is an organized disease to bring new practice to an order.

They are giving permission to import bikes to random authorised dealers? Or a few close friends? So we have to go to your people to get a bike? Government is so blatant in their abuse of power
