People urged to stay away from tourists

The public have been urged to stay away from tourists after the country was placed on heightened alert for the new variant of the coronavirus.

Deputy Director General of Public Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said while tourists are confined to a bio-bubble there is a fear that some locals may attempt to come into contact with the visitors.

He said the main concern is that locals may attempt to get close to the tourists when they visit selected tourist sites in the country.

"A number of tourists are currently in Sri Lanka and are relaxing at hotels in several places. We urge locals not to have any contact with the tourists," he said.

Dr. Hemantha Herath said if anyone comes into contact with the tourists it could result in them contracting the virus.

He said the Police and hotels have been given clear advice on the steps to be taken if anyone is to have contact with a tourist.

"We would need all the support we can get to ensure the new variant does not spread in the country," he said. (EASWARAN RUTNAM)

How can the vendors or the public who are dependent on tourism survive, if they are to stay away from tourists? If so, why are we bringing the tourists into the country?

You cannot contain these arrivals into a bio bubble. They will travel eat and stay in many areas within their routes. The government will not stop this drama as they need to show some sort of an income from foreign currency to obtain any loans (even from even China). That's what this tourism is all about. Plan to get infected with Covid variants sooner than later. When you select the better government on a vote, their way of thanking you for voting !!

They "roam " because they will bring foreign money to the Country. At the moment they have very strict restrictions to Follower like 3 PCR Tests and 2 weeks in a Hotel. These restrictions are also for Sri Lankans coming from abroad , so why you complain ! After the 2 weeks the Kankans can go everywhere , the tourists habe to travel in a so called " Bio Bubble " , so please inform you about the regulation and do not write so silly posts !!

This is what happens when you don’t let your own citizens come into the country but let foreigners come . Such a shame even holding a Srilankan passport . It was already hard visiting other countries with a Srilankan passport now u can’t even come to Srilanka for a visit

You can come to Sri Lanka if you Follower the same procedure with 3 PCR Tests and stay 14 days in a Hotel with tough procedures , please inform you and dont post such a stupide Post ! In which foreign Country you are "allowed " to stay ??

Didn't you know majority of our people are idiots!!! They don't understand what social distancing is in the first place! They will not hesitate to go behind tourists to get some money. Why invite tourists in this situation in any case????
