PHIs to monitor schools from tomorrow



The Public Health Inspectors' (PHI) Union today said that they have informed its members to visit all schools including the ones in the Western Province (WP) from tomorrow and monitor to ensure the schools are adhering to health guidelines issued by the Director General of  Health Services.

PHIU President Upul Rohana told the Daily Mirror that the inspection initiative will begin from tomorrow and continue for two weeks.

Circulars of this notification was already issued by the Health Services Director General and informed all officials in the education sector over the resumption of educational activities, Upul Rohana said.

Following the directives issued by the health authorities, he requested all parents to take maximum effort to bring their children to schools by their own vehicles and advised them to limit using public transport.

"The parents must take responsibility by sending their children with the necessary protective facemasks and requested to advise their children not to share their personal belongings such as pens, pencils, water bottles, meals and snacks," he said.

If any child is found suffering from cold, fever or flu-like symptoms, parents have been advised not to send their children to schools, Rohana said.

"The students should be grouped into two, if the number of students exceeds 15 in a classroom. if the number of students in a class exceeds 30, those students should be separated into three groups by maintaining the social distances," the PHIU head said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
