Not a defeat but an encouraging guidance: Dullas

While stating that they wanted to form a consensus government first time in the history of Sri Lanka, Dullas Alahapperuma said even though their motive was defeated, he did not believe that the wish of the majority of the people who valued consensus was not shattered.

He told Parliament after announcing his defeat that they came to a consensus with the objective of changing the corrupt political system and he did not consider this as a defeat, but as an encouraging guidance.

He said the consensus they reached at was an example for the whole world.

Alahapperuma said most of the political parties came to an agreement leaving behind racial, religious and political differences and added that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa made a huge sacrifice withdrawing even his candidacy.

He said the primary responsibility of all the parliamentarians should be to win back the lost confidence in politicians. He said he wished that the politicians would at least now listen to the voice of the suffering people and youth.

Mr. Alahapperuma said politicians had only thought of their families in the past and added that they wanted to think of the people outside the "Diyawannawa". (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
