No permission for gathering at ceremonies, except weddings, funerals: PHI Union

After having detected several patients with rapidly transmissible new UK variant in Sri Lanka, the Public Health Inspector (PHI) Union today said no permission would be granted to hold any gathering and ceremonies except for weddings and funerals.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Head of PHI Union Upul Rohana requested people not to visit any PHI offices asking for permission for any gathering, except for weddings and funerals.

However, the PHIs of the respective  areas should be made aware of the planned weddings and funerals.

Also, keep in mind to follow the guidelines issued by the officer, he said.

"The spreading of the coronavirus is on the rise again with the detection of the new variant from our country," he said.

Therefore, it is vitally important to stick the rules and quarantine regulations in view to keep the situation under control Rohana said.

He said tough legal actions should be taken against those who do not wear face masks in public places and those all those violate quarantine laws.

He further reiterated that commitment from the general public is essential to protect the country from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
